I am attorney Lenita Skoretz. My family law office is located in Redlands, California, and I represent clients throughout the San Bernardino region. There are many reasons for hiring a local attorney to handle your divorce. I would like to explain some of the most important ones:
Your attorney should know the judges. No, I don't mean going to dinner with them. I mean understanding how the local judges respond to legal motions and settlement proposals. I have been working in family law courts throughout San Bernardino County and Riverside County for more than 10 years. I am familiar with all of the judges and what arguments are most likely to meet with success.
Your attorney should know the local rules. Every family law court has different rules and expectations as far as filing documents and meeting schedules and deadlines. I have extensive experience working with various courts and government agencies throughout the Inland Empire. I know the legal rules and I understand the expectations and requirements to ensure the process isn't held up because of a mistake.
Know the reputable attorneys. An important factor in a divorce can sometimes be the opposing attorney. Some are more experienced than others. Some are more skilled than others. Frankly, some are more reputable than others. I know the opposing attorneys and I know how each of them works to help their client. By knowing what to expect from the other side during mediation or at the negotiation table, we can save time and money by offering proposals that the opposing attorney is likely to consider reasonable.
